University of Gothenburg Martin Hassellöv research focus on marine pollution in its solid form, from nanometer scale to macro litter and impact at the ecosystem level.
I am working with the marine nanochemistry group (Prof Martin Hassellöv and Dr. Julian Alberto Gallego Urrea). My tasks include assistance to several projects that require the operation of single particle ICP-MS, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Scanning Electron Microscope coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM/EDX), among other analytical instrumentation.

Renin-angiotensin inhibitor drugs have been a target for health authority initiatives across Europe with the potential for substantial savings once generic angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) became available without compromising care. Recently, losartan was the first angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) to lose its patent. In Denmark, the authorities removed all other ARBs from the
Engineered nanoparticles released into the environment may interact with natural organic matter (NOM). This has been shown by a new study conducted by researchers at the University of Gothenburg. Despite several international and national sets of regulatory frameworks, the leaking continues. The problem of plastic pellets in marine environments has been reported since the 1970s and the first recommendations for legislation were introduced in the USA back in the 1990s.
Martin Hassellöv leads the research group on marine environmental nanochemistry, studying marine pollution in its solid form, from nanometer scale to the ecosystem level. The marine environment is subjected today to multiple stressors, including ocean acidification, climate change, overfishing and pollution. The pollutants may consist of molecular contaminants, but also in solid forms.

The quantities of engineered nanoparticles (NP) released to the environment are often influenced by their fate in waste water treatment plants (WWTP). Here, 40 nm silver NP (AgNP) were spiked into a mesocosm simulating the process used at a major municipal WWTP.
